Kathakali - Kathakali is a traditional dance-drama of Kerala, believed to have originated about 500 years ago. It includes a combination of dance, drama, music and ritual. It is considered to be the oldest forms of Indian theatre in the world. In Malayalam language the word "Katha" means story and "kali" means language, hence this dance form means "story-play". It"s a spectacular dance performance which provides a vibrant visual treat and great entertainment.

Classical Dance Drama in Kerala, Indian Drama & TheatreChavittunatakam - Chavittunatakam is a Christian dramatic form which was introduced during the time of the Portuguese in Kerala in the16th century A.D. "Chavittu" means the rhythmic steps which accompany the recitation of lines in the drama.

Koodiyattam - Koodiyattam is believed to be existed in all the major temples of Kerala in the 9th century and started to become popular around the 15th century. It is the earliest form of classical dramatic art to have originated in Kerala. The word Koodiyattam means "acting together" and is probably the only form of Sanskrit drama that exists still today.

Ramanattam - Ramanattam is a classical dance-drama in Kerala. This dance drama presents the story of Lord Rama in a series of 8 plays and was created under the patronage of King of Kottarakkara. Ramanattom also incorporates several other elements from ritualistic and traditional art forms of Kerala like Thiyyattu, Mudiyettu, Padayani and Theyyam.

Krishnanattam - Krishnanattam, a dance oriented theatrical performance is the product of the Bhakti movement. It is known for its dynamic costumes, makeup and beautiful headgears worn by the artists. This dance drama is mainly based on Krishnagiti, a text of slokas and padams in Sanskrit which was composed by Manaveda. Krishnanattam is staged at Guruvayoor Temple on almost all days round the year as votive offering by the devotees for propitiating the Lord Krishna and getting his blessing to fulfil their wishes.
