Chunky Pandey, also known as Suyash Chunky Pandey is a popular Bollywood actor who has been more prominent in supporting roles. Throughout his career, spanning over two decades, he has appeared in more than 80 movies. He also essayed lead roles in some of his flicks but gained prominence mainly in supporting roles for famed actors like Govinda, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna. He has also worked with the Bangladesh film industry. In the later phase of his career he shifted to character roles, portraying comic characters in many films. Chunky Pandey was born on 26th September 1962.
Career of Chunky Pandey
Chunky Pandey made his cinematic debut as an actor in Bollywood in the year 1987 with the movie Aag Hi Aag starring along side Neelam Kothari. However he rose to fame with his memorable supporting role of Anil Kapoor"s friend in the 1988 film Tezaab which turned out to be the biggest blockbuster of the year. For the movie he also received Filmfare award nomination for the Best Supporting Actor. Between 1987 and 1993 he appeared in a number of successful multi-hero films. His pairing with Neelam was much appreciated and the duo had 5 hits including Mitti Aur Sona, Ghar Ka Chiraag, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Paap Ki Duniya and Aag Hi Aag. Films in which Chunky Pandey appeared in lead roles could not garner success at the box office and subsequently he started portraying the second lead in films. Some of the hit flicks of Chunky Pandey include Aankhen, Lootere, Vishwatma, Rupaye Dus Karod, Zahreelay, Ghar Ka Chiraag, Khatron Ke Khiladi and Paap Ki Duniya.
Chunky Pandey"s career in the Hindi film industry began fading off in 1990s with his repeated roles of second hero. In the late 90s he moved to Bangladeshi cinema. As he was unable to speak Bengali, his voice in most of the flicks was dubbed. Notable Bangladeshi films of Chunky Pandey are Besh Korechi Prem Korechi and Shami Keno Ashami. The actor made his comeback in Bollywood in the year 2003 with minor supporting roles in movies like Don: The Chase Begins Again, Elaan and Qayamat: City Under Threat. In 2005 Chunky Pandey won critical acclamations for his dark role as an underworld gangster in the Ram Gopal Varma"s film D - Underworld Badshah. Gradually Chunky Pandey carved a distinct niche for himself in comic roles, usually as outlandish characters. His role in 2010 hit flick Housefull was applauded by the critics as well as masses. Chunky Pandey has also appeared as a celebrity judge and host in television reality shows like the dance competition Zara Nachke Dikha and comedy shows Laugh India Laugh and the Great India Laughter Challenge.
Personal Life of Chunky Pandey
Chunky Pandey is married to Bhavna Pandey since 1998 and the couple has two daughters. Apart from acting, Chunky Pandey is also involved with the company "Bollywood Electric" which hosts stage shows. He also runs a health food restaurant in Mumbai along with his wife.
