Chinta Krishnamurthy, Indian DancerChinta Krishnamurthy was a well known performer and guru of Kuchipudi dance. He was born in 1912 in Kuchipudi village, Krishna district. Chinta Krishnamurthy was the son of Chinta Venkataramayya, who founded the famous Venkatarama Natya Mandali troupe there. As a child he played the young roles of Prahlada, Lava, and Kusha, and graduated to heroes like Harishchandra, Rama, Krishna, Arjuna, and other mythological characters.

Chinta Krishnamurthy trained a generation of Kuchipudi actor-dancers, including the legendary Vedantam Satyam. But his lasting contribution was the organisation of the Venkatarama Natya Mandali on a sound footing, touring with it through Andhra Pradesh and other parts of India, and making art lovers aware of the Kuchipudi legacy. Krishnamurthy played a crucial part, along with Banda Kanakalingeswara Rao, in establishing the Shri Siddhendra Kalakshetram in Kuchipudi, the premier institution imparting traditional training in the form. Chinta Krishnamurthy died in 1969.

Chinta Krishnamurthy was bestowed with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 1968.
