Chikhli is a city situated in the Buldhana district in the Vidharbha region in the western state of Maharastra. The municipality looks after its local administration. The municipal council was set up in 1930 and administers an area of 14.29 sq. km. Chikhli is well connected by road rail and airways. The nearest airport is the Aurangabad Airport. Chikhli Bus Station connects Chikhli with Buldhana , Mehkar, Deulgaon Raja and Khamgaon. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) manages the station. It is located on the Pune-Nagpur Highway. Khamgaon Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
According to the 2001 census report, Chikhli had a population of 58,414 where males constitute 52% of the population and females 48% of the population.13% of the population is less than six years of age. Chikhli has an average literacy rate of 74%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy rate is 81% while the female literacy rate is 67%.
The town has good educational opportunities. Along with the primary schools there are two colleges and four high schools in the town. The town has one engineering college - PRMS Anuradha Engineering College.
It is one of the urban banking centers of the district. The district headquarters lies to the north of it. The ancient historical temple of Renuka Devi is situated in the center of the city.
