Chhapra is the adminstrative headquarters of the Saran district of the state of Bihar.It is located 70 Km. north-west of Patna.Resting on the confluence bank of Ghaghra and the Ganges this town is linked to the Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Rama had released Ahilya from her stone statue status in this pretty town .It is also said that Chhapra was blessed when Shri Ram and Lakshman crossed this place on their way to Janakpur (Mithila) to marry Sita .
According to Hindu mythology it is believed that Lord Shiva carried the dead body of Parvati from the holy yagnakund of Daksh Prajapati.On this place the neck portion of Parvati`s body fell and the Holy Shaktipeeth Sthan as established .This place is also known as Ambika Sthan.The Dadhichi`s Ashram is also located here in Chhapra (Dadhichi was a meditator who donated his bones to make Lord Indra`s vajra to help him in the battle with asurs.)
The town is well connected with other parts of Bihar because of a good communication network.The nearest airport is the Patna Airport.The Chhapra Railway Station is on the Siwan Hajipur line. National Highway 85 has its route through Chhapra. National Highway 101 and National Highway 102 originate from Chhapra.
Chhapra has a good infrastructure for education. Some very good colleges like Rajendra College, Jagdam College is located here. There are private as well as government schools .The Zila School, Rajput school, Visveswar Seminary, Arya Kanya girls school, Janak Yadav girls school are good schools of Chappra.
Famous personalities like Dr.Rajendra Prasad, Jayprakash Narayan belongs to Chhapra.The main language of the place is bhojpuri and the main festival that is celebrated is Chhath Parv.
