The birthday of Water god or Lord Varun or Jhulelal is called Cheti Chand and this day also corresponds to Guru Nanak`s birthday. Varun Dev as Sai Uderolal or Jhulelal has incarnated to protect Sindhis. The day holds importance that on this day Lord Varun appeared as Uderolal on the first day of Chet month to save Sindhis from the dictatorship of a ruler who wanted to destroy the Sindhi culture and Hinduism. Cheti chand is celebrated in the Cheti month and therefore known as Cheti chand. This festival is celebrated in honour of the birth of Ishtadeva Uderolal, patron saint of the Sindhis. It is an auspicious day and is celebrated with pomp. People worship water. The Followers of Jhulelal observe Chaliho Sahab. For forty long days and nights the followers undergo rituals and vigil on the bank of Sindhu. They did not shave nor did they wear new clothes or shoes. They did not use soap or oil or any opulent thing. They just washed their clothes, dried them and wore them again. In the evening, they worshiped Lord Varun, sang songs in his praise and prayed for solace and salvation. After the forty long days, the followers of Jhulelal celebrate the occasion with festivity even till today.

Many Sindhis take Baharana Sahib to a nearby river. Baharana Sahib comprises of Jyot (Oil Lamp), Misiri (Crystal Sugar), Phota (Cardamom), Fal (Fruits), and Akha. Behind this is Water jar and a Coconut in it, covered with cloth, flowers and leaves. There is also a Murti (Idol) of Pujya Jhulelal Devta that is worshipped.
