Later in 1636, the fortress was captured by the forces of the Mughal dynasty after signing a treaty with the Nizams. Eventually Chavand Fort came under the control of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire. During his reign the hill fort was known as Prasannagad.
