Charbhuja Temple located in the Kumbhalgarh thesil of Rajsamand District in Rajasthan is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple situated in the village Garhbor in the Aravalli Mountain Ranges is located at a distance of 38 kms from the district headquarters Rajsamand. The village derived its name from the fort built by Bor Rajputs. In Hindi a fort is known as Garh.

Construction of Charbhuja Temple
Charbhuja Temple was constructed in 1444 A. D. Lord Vishnu, the presiding deity of the temple possess four hands hence he is known as Charbhuja. The Gomati River flows by the temple. According to history Shri Gang Dev is said to have received divine instruction to recover the idol of Lord Vishnu from the water and install it in the temple. The king followed the instructions and established the idol in the fort. It is believed that the five Pandavas had also worshipped the idol.

Mirrors, marbles and lime mortars have been mainly employed for the construction of the Charbhuja Temple. The exquisite mirror work adorning the beauty of the temple is worth noticing. The inner shutters of the temple have been made of gold and the outer shutters are built of silver. The other courtyard houses the idol of Garud ji. The main entrance of the temple is decorated with statues of stone elephant on either side. The idol of the chief deity of the temple Lord Charbhuja is almost 85 cms in height. With his four he holds discus, mace, conch shell and a lotus flower. The mace and the discus signify power, strength and competency. The Rajputs visiting the temple offer sword and shield that stand as symbol of Rajput valour.

Festivals of Charbhuja Temple
Charbhuja Temple organises a fair every year on Jhaljhoolni Gyaras. It falls on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight in the month of Bhadrapad i.e. during the months of August-September. The day is celebrated on a grand scale in the temple. The idol of the Lord is taken out for a grand procession. Later the devotees carry it to a nearby lake for a religious bath following which special worship of the lord is also performed. Pilgrims visiting the temple during this day offer flowers and sweets to the Lord. Apart from this the festival of Holi is also celebrated enthusiastically by the people. Other festivals such as Navaratri, Janmashtami and Ramanavami are also celebrated actively.
