Chandu Borde is a former Indian cricketer hailing from Pune. He represented western Indian when he played in the domestic level cricket.

Chandu Borde, Former Indian Cricket PlayerChandu Borde, who is also known as Chandrakant Gulabrao Borde is a former Indian cricketer who played for Indian Cricket Team from 1958 to 1970.

Chandrakant Gulabrao Borde was born on 21st July 1934 in Pune (Maharashtra). He played with the major domestic level teams in independent India like Baroda Cricket Team (Vadodara) and Maharashtra Cricket Team. He had a batting style of right hand and he is also a leg break bowler.

Domestic Cricket Career of Chandu Borde
Chandu Borde made his debut in domestic cricket in the year 1954 to 1955. There he opened in the domestic season for Baroda Cricket Team against Gujarat Cricket Team in Ahmedabad in December 1954.

Later, he played in the semi-final against Holkar Cricket Team and was bowled for a duck. He had more success in the following season, making maiden century against Bombay Cricket Team.

Chandu Borde, Former Indian Cricket Player From 1957 to 1958, in Ranji Trophy final against Services, he scored a half-century and picked up 5 wickets in the match. He represented Maharashtra Cricket team after a transfer in 1964.

International Cricket Career of Chandu Borde
Chandu Borde made his debut in international cricket hemisphere after he got a chance in the first test during the West Indies tour of India. Over the first two Tests, his performance was ordinary and was dropped for the Third Test in favour of debutant Ramnath Kenny. After a poor performance from Kenny, Chandu Borde was recalled and made his maiden Test half-century. In the Fifth and final Test of the series, Borde made his international breakthrough with a maiden century, 109 runs and then 96 in the second innings of a drawn match.

In the next series, India toured England, and Chandu Borde fractured the little finger on the left hand in the First Test, and missed the second Test. Over the next 11 matches, Chandu Borde scored only two half-centuries and 14 wickets as Australia and Pakistan toured India.

In the Fourth Test against Pakistan Cricket team in Madras (Chennai) he made 177 (not out), his second century and highest Test score, combining in a 177-run stand with fellow centurion Polly Umrigar, a noted Indian cricket personality.

Chandu Borde played a significant role in India`s first victory over England in the Fourth Test played in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, scoring two half centuries (68 and 61) and taking 3 wickets in the First Test. In the next Test in Madras (Chennai), India won again with Chandu Borde taking five wickets.

Awards Received by Chandu Borde
Chandu Borde is a former cricketer who was a member of the Indian team between 1958 and 1970. He received many awards like Arjuna Award in 1966, Padma Shri Award in 1969, Padma Bhushan in 2002 and CK Nayudu Award for Lifetime achievement award in 2006.

Retirement from Indian Cricket
After his retirement from Indian Cricket scenario, Chandu Borde became a cricket administrator, serving as the Chairman of national selectors. He has received various awards from the Government of India for his contributions to cricket, on and off the field
