Chandrakant Pandit, born on September 30, 1961, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, had served India well as a skilled striker and an able wicketkeeper in the mid-eighties. He was a right handed batsman and a wicketkeeper. He made his Test debut in the England vs. India Test match, held at Leeds from June 19-23, in 1986. Chandrakant Pandit scored only 23 runs in the first innings and 17 in the second innings.

Chandrakant Pandit has played 5 Test matches, scoring a total of 171 runs with a highest score of 39 and average of 24.42. He has also appeared in 36 ODIs, with total runs of 290 and highest score of 33. Pandit has appeared in 138 First class matches and scored 8209 as total runs in all these matches. His highest score is 202 and average is 48.57. Moreover, Chandrakant Pandit has also featured in 101 List A matches, with a highest score of 93 and total runs amounting to 2033. His average in these matches is 35.05. Among 3 of the 5 Tests that Pandit was featured in, he functioned as a middle-order batsman. In the 1991-92 tour of Australia, he availed of the absence of Kiran More, and demonstrated his skill by procuring 11 fantastic catches. His last Test match was against Australia, held at Adelaide, from Januray 25th to 29th, 1992.

This was the occasion for his ODI Best of 33 runs. Chandrakant Pandit`s last ODI was against Australia, at Sydney, on January 20th, 1992. He rendered celebrated Australian cricketers like DM Jones and ME Waugh, stumped off, with his wicket-keeping prowess. Chandrakant Pandit`s international career ended only to mark a new beginning in domestic cricket. He became a member of Madhya Pradesh cricket and luxuriated in some pleasant performances.

Chandrakant Pandit`s career, took an interesting change, when he was appointed as the cricket coach of the Mumbai cricket team. His assignment as a coach gifted him considerable success.
