Chandrachur Singh is an Indian film actor who marked his presence in the Hindi film industry with his very first venture Maachis. His appealing role in the movie won him applauses from critics. His following films although did not gained much success at the box office, earned the actor rave reviews for his performances. He essayed diverse role in films, capturing the viewers even through his supporting roles.

Early Life of Chandrachur Singh
Chandrachur Singh was born on 11th October 1968 in New Delhi. He is a native of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Hailing from an affluent family, his father is an ex-MLA and his mother is the daughter of the Maharaja of Bolangir in Odisha. Singh was did his schooling from the Doon School located at Dehradun and later from St. Stephens, New Delhi. Chandrachur Singh is also a trained classical singer and taught music in Doon school earlier. He has two younger brothers named Abhimanyu Singh and Aditya Singh.

Career of Chandrachur Singh
Chandrachur Singh made his acting debut in the 1996 film Tere Mere Sapne which was produced by Amitabh Bachchan`s production company A.B.C.L viz. Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited. In the same year he also starred in critically acclaimed film Maachis under the direction Gulzar in which he appeared alongside Tabu. This movie won him all the glory he was overwhelmed with and Chandrachur Singh was called as Chandrachur `Maachis` Singh in Bollywood. He appeared in several other films most of which failed to do well at the box office although he did have success with his supporting role in the hit film Daag: The Fire in 1999 in which he acted alongside Sanjay Dutt. He also earned applauses with his performances in the movies Josh and Kya Kehna. Since 2001 his career declined owing to the multiple dislocation of his shoulder joint which occurred while water skiing in Goa. Due to shoulder injury he gained weight which caused him to lose roles in celluloid. In 2001 he starred in Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyaa and in Bharat Bhagya Vidhata the following year. His film Sarhad Paar was shot in 2002 but its release got delayed till 2006. The films performed averagely at the box office.

Chandrachur Singh made comeback in Bollywood with Chaar Din Ki Chandni also featuring Farida Jalal, Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Kulraj Randhawa and Tusshar Kapoor. The film met mixed reviews. In 2013 he appeared in the Bollywood political action thriller Zilla Ghaziabad. Chandrachur Singh also acted in the Mira Nair`s political thriller drama film The Reluctant Fundamentalist which was based on a novel of the same name by Mohsin Hamid.

In the year 1996 Chandrachur Singh won Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance in the movie Maachis.

Chandrachur Singh is married to Avantika Kumari who hails from Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The couple has a son named Shraanajai Singh.
