This function matches with the Konark Dance festival organized during the same time near Konark Sun temple.

Location of Chandrabhaga Beach
The Chandrabhaga Beach is located in the coastal village of Chandrabhaga in Puri District of Odisha. It is situated on the Bay of Bengal, at a distance of 3 kilometers from the World Heritage Site of the Sun Temple of Konark.

Mythological story of Chandrabhaga Beach
Chandrabhaga Beach received its name from the holy River Chandrabhaga, which once flowed through the grounds of the Sun Temple of Konark, towards the Bay of Bengal. The Chandrabhaga Beach used to be the mouth of River Chandrabhaga in the earlier period. According to history, Chandrabhaga was the daughter of a sage who killed herself by sinking in the river to defend her chastity from Surya, the Sun God. Chandrabhaga caught the attention of the Sun God by her perfect charm. The God came down to search for her hand in love. Chandrabhaga did not proffer herself to the God. Annoyed by the tender pangs the God chased behind a frightened Chandrabhaga who jumped into the river and killed herself, thrived in defending her chastity. It is believed that Lord Surya, in regret, blessed the river with medicinal properties and named it as "Chandrabhaga". It is believed that a dip in River Chandrabhaga can cure leprosy. Prince Shambha, the son of Lord Krishna, was treated of leprosy by Lord Surya on the river mouth of Chandrabhaga.
