Chandigarh Airport, ChandigarhChandigarh Airport is a major international airport which is located about 9km south of Chandigarh city in the Indian state of Punjab. The airport operates as a civil enclave at the Chandigarh Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force. A total of 26 domestic flights connect Chandigarh to different destinations in India. The first phase terminal covering 53,000 sq metres will have a capacity of 1,600 passengers at a time and a parking space for 500 vehicles.

The work on International terminal by the Airport Authority of India is under process and is about to be completed very soon. The new International Terminal is being built at Mohali. The main purpose of the International airport is to reduce pressure on Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Naming of Chandigarh Airport
Originally, it was proposed to name the airport as "Mohali International Airport" due to its proximity to the town of Mohali in Punjab. However, in 2008, Haryana demanded a stake in the airport, thus resulting in Punjab and Haryana reaching an agreement to name it "Chandigarh International Airport".

Facilities at Chandigarh Airport
Numbers of advanced and modern facilities are offered by Chandigarh Airport to the passengers coming down or moving to different places of the country. Complementary baggage facility is offered to all by the airport authority. Stationery, jewellery, magazines and many other shops are there from where one can get the necessary products. Again, the bakery, cafes and restaurants are also there that offer lip smacking food to all. The duty free shops available here makes it possible for all to get different kinds of product at a very nominal rate.

Transportation from Chandigarh Airport
Several buses can be availed from a stand which is located at a distance of 19kms from the Chandigarh Airport. From the airport, one can get numerous transport facilities to reach the main bus stand. Taxis are available from the airport. A railhead is situated at a distance of 13kms from the Chandigarh Airport that connects the union territory to all the major cities and towns of the country. The transportation service available from the Chandigarh Airport is very regular and the roadways are well connected to reach any part of the state from the airport.
