Chandauli District is one of the four districts of Uttar Pradesh, which come under Varanasi division. Chandauli is the district headquarters.

Chandauli District, Uttar PradeshChandauli District of Uttar Pradesh was constituted in the year 1997. This district constitutes a part of Varanasi District. Chandauli District is located in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. Chandauli is a developing district comprising three Tehsils and nine Development Blocks. Chandauli District has historical place Chahaniya, which is famous for its rich heritage. Chandauli is said to have derived its name from the founder, Chandra Sah, a Barhaulia Rajput of the family of Narotam Rai, and his descendants, Shujan Sah and Bhupat Sah.

Location of Chandauli District
Chandauli District is located in 24 degree 56 minutes to 25 degree 35 minutes north latitude and 81 degree 14 minutes to 84 degree 24 minutes east longitudes. It is located at a distance of about 30 kilometers from Varanasi. Chandauli District is bounded in the east by Bihar, in the north-east by Ghazipur District, in the south by Sonbhadra District. Karamnasa River is its dividing line from Bihar. Ganga River, Karamnasa and Chandraprabha rivers form the geographical and economic strategy of this district.

Administration of Chandauli District
Administration of Chandauli District is headed by the Deputy Commissioner. He is the top administrator of the division. All the four districts namely Varanasi, Ghazipur, Jaunpur and Chandauli are under his administrative control. He is responsible for good administration and planed development of the district and he also act as `appeal adalat` for revenue cases. The most important work of the district magistrate is to maintain law and order and implementation of various government orders. Being a top administrator of the district he directly orders the police department whenever required. He is also responsible in maintaining peace and justice in the district. As a collector the most important work of the district magistrate is to collect the land revenue and all the others main and miscellaneous dues of the government, proper maintenance of the land records and land acquisition. Further, he is responsible to implement all the government programmes in the interest of the common public of the district. For the planning purpose, revenue and general administration, the district has been divided into three tehsils and nine blocks. Block Development officer is the in charge of the block. To maintain the general administration of the district, there is one Additional District Magistrate. Administrative set-up of Chandauli District also includes three Sub Divisional Magistrates for three tehsils.

Tourism in Chandauli District
Chandauli District is of much importance for tourism. The forest of Naugarh, beautiful Dams and waterfall always attract tourists. In the district Rajdari and Deodari waterfalls, Chakiya, Chandraprabha dam, Naugarh Dam, Arvatand waterfall, Naugarh are the major tourist attractions. Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular tourist pull of Chandauli District.

Chandauli District is easily accessible from all parts of the country, well connected by road, rail and air. The main railway junction is Mughalsarai, which offers convenient and comfortable travelling options to and from other cities of India. The nearest airport is Babatpur in Varanasi.
