Chak De India , Indian filmChak De India is a Hindi film directed by Shimit Amin starring Shahrukh Khan and Vidya Malvade in lead roles. The film revolves around the game hockey.

Shahrukh Khan portrays the character of Kabir Khan the captain of the Indian Hockey team .In a match against Pakistan, Shahrukh Khan misses a penalty stroke in the dying minutes of the match, which causes India to loose the game .The Indian media, hold Kabir Khan responsible for the defeat and is humiliated to such an extent that he has to leave his ancestral home after being labeled as a Gaddar (traitor). Seven years later, Kabir comes back with a proposal to coach the Indian Women`s Hockey team for the Hockey World Cup.

Chak De India , Indian filmThe Indian Hockey Federation are apprehensive since women`s hockey in India has not achieved anything substantial without any sponsorship and media back up. Kabir takes on the challenge and goes to the National Hockey Camp where he is introduced to the sixteen young girls who play for their respective states. Kabir starts coaching them with a dream that the team will win the Hockey World Cup for India.

There are formidable diversities like class and ethnicity which hinder the spirit of unity in the team . Kabir inculcates in them a sense of team spirit & asks them to put the country first. The girls take time but ultimately comes together through a series of incidents. Some senior members of the team resent at the efforts of Kabir Khan . The team rally and convince the Federation to send them for the World Cup to be held in Australia .

In their first match in the foreign country the Indian women`s hockey team is battered by the Australians but slowly goes on to win matches. They keep getting better and better with every match and miraculously manage to reach the finals. In the end it all comes down to a tense Penalty Shoot Out, which the Indians manage to win. The players and Kabir are overwhelmed at their victory and are welcomed back as heroes. Kabir returns home as a hero where the residents greet him with love and affection.

In the movie Shahrukh Khan is portraying a de-glamorized role and is seen sporting a beard in the film unlike the usual Raj or Rahul. Produced under the Yashraj banner, Salim -Sulaiman has done the music of the film and goes with the mood of the film. Shot at several locations in Australia in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane the movie has a well-knit script and powerful dialogues. Editing of the film has been done by Amin and cinematography by Vishal Sinha . Its definitely a must watch film.
