Captain Bheri has the welfare society which is the oldest fishermen`s co-operative society of West Bengal. It was registered in 1927 and the 40 fishermen families associated with it today are engaged in fish farming. They fish in the Captain Bhery and sell the fishes in the local and international markets. It have an average of 6.5 tonnes of fish production per hectare.
