Capital cities of North India describe the history of royalty, the history of culture and the evolution of administration that came time to time with the advent of different local and foreign kings and the dynasties. The Northern part of India officially refers to the states of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Lucknow
Lucknow, the "City of Nawabs", is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the most populous states of India. The city served as the capital of the Nawabs in medieval period to the early modern era. Lucknow is also responsible for bestowing the fine culture, superb architecture of Bara Imambara and delectable Mughal cuisine.

Srinagar
Srinagar is known as the "heaven on earth" and serves as the summer capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar is famous for its Mughal gardens, waterfronts and houseboats of Dal Lake. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dried fruits, which are popular in global market.

Jammu

Shimla
Shimla is known as the "Queen of Hill Stations". Before the Independence of India, Shimla was the summer capital of India. It is located in the north-west Himalayan Mountain Range and now the capital of Himachal Pradesh. It is the popular hilly capital city, populous with hill resorts, forest sides and the winding main street. The cynosure of Shimla is the Scandal Point. From here, the flat open area known as the Ridge stretches east to Christ Church. From mid-July to mid-September, Shimla is frequently wreathed in cloud, and in winter it often gets a carpeting of snow.
