Budgam, Budgam District, Jammu and KashmirBudgam is the notified city in the midst of snow in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. This place is popular for the presence of green meadows in summer and the snow lands in winter just like Gulmarg, but there are no recent developments here for tourism. But one can visit this place by travelling through train from Srinagar in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir.

Location of Budgam
Budgam is a town and a notified area committee in Budgam district in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, the modern state in Kashmir valley.

History of Budgam
Budgam came into existence in 1979, prior to which it was part of Srinagar district in Jammu and Kashmir. In former times, Budgam was a part of Baramulla district, when Srinagar itself was a constituent of the Anantnag district. It was then known as tehsil Sri Pratap. The historical records suggest that Budgam was also referred to as Pargana Deesu. According to the well-known chronicler Khawaja Azam Demari, the area was also known as Deedmarbag.

Geography of Budgam
Budgam borders the districts of Baramulla and Srinagar in the north, Pulwama in the south and Poonch in the south west.

Administration of Budgam
Budgam consists of eight blocks like Beerwah, Nagam, B.K.Pora, Khan Sahib, Khag, Narbal and Chadoora. Each block consists of a number of panchayats. The district is subdivided into the six tehsils of Charari Sharief Tehsil, Beerwah Tehsil, Budgam Tehsil, Chadoora Tehsil, and Khansahib Tehsil and Khag Tehsil.

Demography of Budgam
According to the Population census in the year 2011, Budgam had a population of 15,932. The males constitute 69 percent of the population and females 31 percent. Budgam has an average literacy rate of 68 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent; with 81 percent of the males and 19 percent of females literate. 6 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.

Tourism in Budgam
Budgam contains the only airport in Kashmir valley in Jammu and Kashmir. The city"s main tourist attractions are Doodhpathri, Yusmarg, Tosamaidan, Nilnag, Khag, Mt Tatakuti, and Pehjan. The city Budgam offers many stunning locales and has tremendous tourism potential that has largely remained untapped so far. Kani shawl adored the Caesar`s court and was looked upon by kings of Mughal Dynasty and later by Nawabs of Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Awadh as mark of nobility. In 1776 Napoleon presented a Kani shawl to his wife Josephine and with that took off a new fashion trend in Europe. The revered shrine of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Wali can also be found in the Charari Sharief Tehsil of Budgam. The world"s biggest chinar is in Chatergam of Budgam.
