Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary
Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary located in Karnataka houses a variety of animals and birds. The sanctuary is visited by many tourists from different places.

Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, KarnatakaThe Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Kodagu District at a distance of 243 km from Bengaluru and about 60km from Coorg. It is a part of the Western Ghats. It is situated on the border between Wayanad district of Kerala state on the south and Kodagu District in Karnataka on the north side. Brahmagiri Wild Life Sanctuary is spread about 181.80 sq. km. the region comprises of mainly evergreen and semi-evergreen forest. In the higher altitudes, there are grasslands with shola forest patches. Bamboos are well represented in these forests. The Sanctuary is surrounded by agricultural fields and coffee plantations. The eastern tip of the Sanctuary almost touches the northwestern edge of the Nagarhole National Park. It is separated only by a narrow strip of coffee plantations.

The Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary has derived its name from the highest point, the Brahmagiri peak. It is 1607m in height and covers an area of about 181km.

Flora and Fauna of Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary
The Brahmagiri Hill is rich in vegetation and houses a variety of species of animals, birds and reptiles. Mammals in the Sanctuary include Lion-tailed Macaque, Elephant, Gaur, Tiger, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Wild Dog, Sloth Bear, Wild Pig, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Nilgiri Langur, Slender Loris, Bonnet Macaque, Common Langur, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Giant Flying Squirrel, Nilgiri Marten, Common Otter, Brown Mongoose, Civets, Porcupine, Pangolin, Python, Cobra, King Cobra, Emerald Dove, Black Bulbul and Malabar Trogon. The sanctuary also provides shelter to bids like emerald dove, black bulbul and Malabar trogon.

Tourists can visit the sanctuary taking different routes. They can take the Bengaluru Mysore Hunsur Srimangala Iruppu Bhrahmagiri route. They also take the route of Bengaluru Mysore Nanjangudu Gundelpet Sulthan Bathery Mananthavady Kattikulam Thirunelli Bhrahmagiri. There can next avail the services to Gonikoppal. From Gonikoppal private buses are available to Srimangala. From Srimangala Iruppu falls is just 10km away and the trek starts from here.
