In ancient times after crossing the Ganga at Patna, the first village was Ukkacala, now called Hajipur. Hajipur figures during the struggle between Akbar and his rebellious Afghan governors of Bengal, in 1572 and 1574. Within the village is an old fort with a small stone mosque called the Pathar ki Masjid. Haji Iliyas is known as the founder of this mosque. This mosque is plain to look at and is of peculiar architecture. Also here lies a portion of Ananda`s ashes. Ananda acted as Buddha`s personal. The building measures about 84.5 ft. in length and about 33.5 ft. in breadth. It has three domes. The central one is larger than the others. An inscription over the stone gateway records it"s year of construction as 1587 AD.
