Aamir Khan, the Bollywood actor, has established himself as one of the most popular and influential actors of the Hindi film industry. Apart from acting he has also ventured in screenwriting, production, direction and television presentation. Being a versatile actor, his diverse performances have been lauded by the critics as well as masses. His television talk show "Satyamev Jayate" which highlighted sensitive social issues of India was also appreciated. For his contributions in the film industry, Aamir Khan has also been honoured with several prestigious awards. In addition to celluloid, the actor is also actively involved in many humanitarian and social causes.

Early Life of Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan was born as Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan on 14th March 1965 in Mumbai to Tahir and Zeenat Hussain. His father Tahir Hussain was a film producer while his uncle, Nasir Hussain, was a film producer as well as a director and an actor. He is said to be a descendant of the scholar and political leader Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Dr. Zakir Hussain, the former President of India. Dr. Najma Heptullah, who was a Chairperson in the Rajya Sabha, is his second cousin. Aamir Khan attended J. B. Petit School, St. Anne`s High School, Bombay Scottish School and Narsee Monjee College for completing his studies. He is an excellent tennis player and has played state level championships. At the age of sixteen he was involved in the experimental process of making a 40-minute silent film entitled Paranoia under the direction of Aditya Bhattacharya. Subsequently he joined a theatre group called Avantar where he worked back stage. He made his stage debut through a Gujarati play, Kesar Bina, at Prithvi Theatre. He also appeared in two Hindi plays and an English play. He discontinued his studies after completing high-school education and began working as an assistant director to Nasir Hussain.

Early Film Career of Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan started as a child artist in the movie Yaadon Ki Baaraat in 1973. Later as an adult he began acting in documentaries directed by the students of FTII, Pune for which he got noticed by director Ketan Mehta. Although he made his debut with the movie Holi in 1984, the first major success at the box-office came with the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 where he was starred opposite to Juhi Chawla who also made her debut in the same film. His next movie Raakh was a critically acclaimed movie. In the 90`s Aamir gave a number of hits like Dil with Madhuri Dixit, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin with Pooja Bhatt, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar along side Ayesha Jhulka, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke along side Juhi Chawla, Rangeela with Urmila Matondkar and Andaz Apna Apna with Salman Khan. Aamir paired with Karishma Kapoor in the blockbuster hit movie Raja Hindustani in 1997 that won him many rave reviews and in multi starrer comedy flick Ishq opposite to Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Juhi Chawla. After the phenomenal success of these movies Aamir ventured into playback singing with the song `Aati Kya Khandala` in the movie Gulam along with Rani Mukherjee. In the late 90`s he starred in other movies like Sarfarosh, Earth, Mann and Mela with Bollywood actresses like Sonali Bendre, Nandita Das, Manisha Koirala and Twinkle Khanna.

Later Career of Aamir Khan
The flicks of 2000s brought Aamir`s versatility on the forefront. Aamir Khan won acclaim for his role in the Academy Award nominated movie Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India in the year 2001 directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. His next release Dil Chahta Hai in 2001 also entered in the top five highest grossing films of that year. Aamir Khan appeared in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra`s critically acclaimed Rang De Basanti which was selected as India`s official entry to the Oscars. His performance in Fanaa in 2006 opposite Kajol was applauded and the film became a moderate success at the box-office. Aamir Khan turned director cum producer with the movie Taare Zameen Par which was based on a kid struggling with psychological disease dyslexia. The movie was well appreciated and received several nominations and awards. In 2008 Aamir starred in the chartbuster Tamilian remake movie Ghajini along side Asin Thottumkal. The movie 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor in the year 2009 remained one of the most grossing movies in the history of Indian cinema. It was based on Chetan Bhagat`s popular novel Five Point Someone-what not to do at IIT. Recently Aamir appeared as an actor cum producer in Kiran Rao directed movie Dhobi Ghat. His next venture Talaash was in 2012 which once again marked to be a hit. He also worked with Yash Raj Films for the Bollywood flick Dhoom 3 which gained huge success worldwide and became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time.

Aamir Khan has also ventured into film production and the first film produced by his company Aamir Khan Productions was Lagaan in 2001. He also produced a documentary, Madness in the Desert, on the making of Lagaan. Other films produced by Aamir Khan include Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and Peepli Life. Aamir Khan has also appeared on Indian television through his social issue based talk show Satyamev Jayte which received positive reviews from eminent personalities. He won the Filmfare Awards in 2015 for his role in PK.

Other Works of Aamir Khan
Apart from films Aamir Khan has also been involved in social activities. He was a part of the demonstrations put up by the Narmada Bachao Andolan committee, following the decision of Gujarat Government to raise the height of the Narmada dam. He also extended his support to the Janlokpal Bill Movement led by Anna Hazare in August 2011. He met the Prime Minister and the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment on 16th July 2012 for discussing the plight of manual scavengers and sought eradication of manual scavenging in the country. He was appointed as the national brand ambassador of UNICEF on 30th November 2011 for promoting child nutrition. Aamir Khan has also been a part of the government organised IEC campaign for spreading awareness about malnutrition.

Personal Life of Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan got married to Reena Dutta on 18th April 1986 at a very young age and has two children named Junaid and Ira. The couple however divorced in December 2002. On 28th December 2005 he married Kiran Rao who had been an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker during the filming of Lagaan. They have a son named Azad Rao Khan who was born on 5th December 2011.
