Lord Shiva is called by the name Bisheswar, whose image is the linga. The linga which represents Bisheswar is a plain conical stone set on end. Bisheswar is the reigning deity of Benaras. According to the people, Bisheswar is regarded as the king of all the other deities as well as of all the inhabitants.
