Birla Institute of Technology and Science also called BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus or BPHC, is one of the leading technical and science institutes for higher education in India. Located at Hyderabad, it was started in 2008 with the first batch graduating in 2012. It is one of the four campuses of the university BITS Pilani. Since, only the parent university (BITS - Pilani) has the right to grant degrees to students, the daughter campuses are not affiliates. Spread over a lush green area of 220 acres, the campus follows the same curriculum, teaching methodology and educational practices of its parent campus.

History of Birla Institute of Technology and Science
BITS Pilani was founded in the year 1929 by Shri Ghanshyam Das Birla as an Intermediate College. During the period of World War II, the Indian Governmentg established a technical training centre at Pilani with the aim of supplying technicians for defense services and industry. In 1946, when the war was at end, the institution was converted into the Birla Engineering College which provided degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering. Then finally in 1964, the Birla Colleges of Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Pharmacy and Science were merged to create the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS).

Since the year 2000, BITS Pilani started to expand in India and abroad establishing campuses in Goa, Dubai, and United Arab Emirates. The institute also runs a virtual university and an extension centre in Bangalore.

Administration of Birla Institute of Technology and Science
The institute was named as a campus as opposed to a separate university. The students completing graduation are awarded degrees from BITS Pilani as only the parent university has the right to grant degrees. The administration is divided into six divisions including Engineering Services Division (ESD), Information Processing and Business Intelligence (IP&BI), Instruction Division (ID), Academic Registration Council Division (ARCD), Student Welfare Division (SWD) and University Industry Linkages Division (UILD).

Admission Procedure of Birla Institute of Technology and Science
Since the year 2005, BITS accepts students on the basis of their performance in the all-India Entrance Examination, called BITS Admission Test (BITSAT). The admission test is held throughout the country over a fortnight. It is a three hour long online exam where the candidates are required to sit in front of a computer at authorized BITSAT centers. The applicant planning to appear for the exam must have a minimum aggregate of 75% in Physics, Maths and Chemistry as well as a minimum of 60% marks in each of those subjects individually. The determination of the stream of the student depends solely on his/her BITSAT score. BITS Pilani also has the policy of accepting State and National Board toppers from India.

Degree Facilities at Birla Institute of Technology and Science
In addition to the integrated first degree programmes, BITS offers varied degree facilities to its students:

Dual Degree System- It is basically two degrees, one of them in the sciences and the other in engineering. The dual degree system is offered to the students of category-B programmes. The student is allotted a second (engineering only) degree based on their choices as well as their performance in the first year which means they graduate with two degrees from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.

Vertical Transfer System- The Vertical Transfer System can be obtained if one is in the top 10 students of the campus in terms of CGPA after their first year, then it is allowed for the student to take a B.E. + B.E. dual degree. A student can be transferred from one programme to another, if he/she is in the top 30 students of the campus in terms of CGPA after first year.

Practice School- This programme is offered by the Pilani, Hyderabad and Goa campuses of the university. The goal of this programme is to send the students to industrial entities in order to learn the tricks of their trade from professionals. It has two stages, i.e. PS-I and PS-II.

Notable Research and Development Projects at Birla Institute of Technology and Science
The institution has many R&D projects under its departments which take the form of research-based consultancy, sponsored projects or just independent R&D. Science and Engineering Research Council (DST-SERC), University Grants Commission (UGC), National Programme for Micro and Smart System (NPMASS) and Astra Zeneca are some of the collaborators.

Central Library at Birla Institute of Technology and Science
The Central Library is a new addition to BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. This fully air-conditioned library with institute Wi-fi network, has subscribed to a lot of magazines, journals and newspapers which one can read here.

Publications by Birla Institute of Technology and Science
The college runs an official magazine called "On the Rocks". The magazine is managed by the students and features articles by students on many topics. Every departmental association has its own newsletter. Since July 2014, the students started an online magazine called "The Daily Bitsian" which throws light on campus news, articles, poems, photographs and op-ed pieces.
