Hume`s Pheasant is also known as Mrs. Hume`s Pheasant or Bar Tailed Pheasant and its scientific name is Syrmaticus humiae. It is a large bird up to ninety centimeters in length. It is a forest pheasant a multi coloured bird.
The head is grayish brown in colour, facial skin is red in colour, feathers are chestnut brown in colour, bill is yellowish, wing bars are white and the neck feathers are metallic blue in colour. The iris is strikingly brownish orange in colour. The male and the female Hume`s Pheasant are distinguished from their tails; the male has along grayish white, barred black and brown tail while the female is a chestnut brown bird with a white colour throat, buff colour belly and a white tipped tail.
There is nothing extraordinary about this bird, which is found in the forests of India. The bird mainly lives on vegetation matters. In a normal clutch, the female lays three to twelve creamy white eggs in nest of leaves, twigs and feathers.
