The Green Imperial pigeon is a forest bird and a widespread resident breeding bird in southern Asia, India. It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays a single white egg. It has a fast and direct flight with the regular beats and an occasional sharp flap of the wings, which characterizes the pigeons in general.

Green Imperial pigeon is a large plump pigeon with a length of forty-five centimeters. The colour of its back, wings and tails are metallic green. The head and lower parts of the body are white in colour apart from the maroon under tail coverts. This species mainly resides in trees and eats plant material that is found in the tree canopy. They are not very social but usually travel in small flocks. The call of the bird is deep and resonant.
