Goshawk, BirdThe Goshawk is a medium large bird of prey and belongs to the Acipitridae family, which includes other diurnal raptorial birds like eagles, buzzards and harriers. The Goshawk is the largest member of the genus Accipter. It is a raptor with short broad wings and a long tail.

The male Goshawk is blue-grey above and barred grey on the lower parts while the females are slate grey in the upper parts and grey in the lower parts. The younger birds are brown in the upper parts and barred brown in the lower parts. The flight is a `slow flap-slow flap and straight glide.

This species feeds on birds and mammals and the most targeted species are squirrels, galliforms, piciforms and passerines, which include crows, pigeons and seagulls. During the spring breeding season, the Goshawk has a striking roller coaster display. At this time the bird makes a gull like call. The normal clutch size is two to four but sometimes one to five eggs are also laid. The incubation period lasts from twenty eight to thirty eight days. The young birds leave the nest after thirty-five days and are protected by their parents before they learn flying.
