Bir Shikargarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Panchkula District, HaryanaBir Shikargarh Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Panchkula District of the northern Indian state of Haryana and is quite close to Pinjore, near Morni Hills. The sanctuary came into existence during 1975. A rich variety of flora and fauna are present in the premises of Bir Shikargarh Wildlife Sanctuary which occupies an area of 10.93 square kilometres. The area of this sanctuary is based in Morni foothills, alongside the Kaushalya River. A region of about 3 kms surrounding the sanctuary has been declared an eco-sensitive zone which possesses certain restrictions imposed upon it in terms of land usage. The area belonging to nearly 50 villages consisting of Haripur, Burj Kotian, Chandimandir, Tibbi, Mallah and others are amongst the eco-sensitive belt of the sanctuary. It is based at an altitude measuring 400 metres above mean sea level.

A thick forest cover envelopes the area of Bir Shikargarh Wildlife Sanctuary which possesses lush greenery. Trees like Teak, Eucalyptus and Khair are a few of the numerous species of flora which thrive in the cool depths of this wildlife reserve. The sanctuary also possesses Dry Deciduous Mixed Forests.

Fauna of Bir Shikargarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Numerable types of wild creatures prowl about Bir Shikargarh Wildlife Sanctuary including Nilgai, Wild Boar, Muntjac, Goral, Rhesus Macaque, Sambar, Common Langur, Chital, Mongoose, Hyena, Jungle Cat, Porcupine, Spotted Deer and Jackal. Lucky visitors might even receive a few glances of Leopard roaming about the sanctuary grounds. The birds which dwell here are Grey Partridge, Red Jungle Fowl, Black Partridge and several others.

The ideal time when one must pay visit to this wonderful wildlife sanctuary is between the months of October and March. The closest airport to the sanctuary is the one located at Chandigarh. There exists an efficient network of roadways which easily connects it to the rest of the country.
