Bindu Nanubhai Desai, known popularly as Bindu is a Bollywood actress in 1970s. She is popularly known for her vamp roles in Indian Cinema. She made her debut in the tear of 1962 in the movie Anpadh. Apart from mostly doing vamp roles, she has also worked as a dancer in item numbers. She is also known as the Glam Queen of 70s.
Early Life of Bindu
She was born in Hanuman Bhagda in the district of Valsad in the Western Indian state of Gujarat on 17 January 1951 to film producer Nanubhai Desai and his wife Jyotsna. Bindu`s mother was a stage actress, thus acting was in her genes by birth. Although, Bindu took birth in a family related to the silver screen, her road to success was not an easy job. After her father`s death, she was at a very young age of 13 and had to take over the duty of earning bread for the family. It was only after her marriage to wealthy Gujrati businessman Champaklal Zaveri that she got her first major film role offer.
Career of Bindu
Bindu made her debut in the movie `Anpadh` starring Dharmendra and Mala Sinha. After this film, she went on to her next success story with Shakti Samanta`s Kati Patang (1970) where she had a sizzling score "Mera Naam Shabnam" at her credit. This song is a hit number even today and is remembered as the highlight of the film Kati Patang. Bindu first came on stage as a vamp; this image was quite a famed one in those days. Bindu had Helen and Aruna Irani as her contemporaries at that time. She followed her way through all the successful films like Ittefaaq (1969) and Imtihaan (1974) with her mesmerizing performances.
Bindu showed her versatility in films like Hrishikesh Mukherjee`s "Arjun Pandit" and Abhimaan (1973). In these two films, she won raves for playing very sympathetic characters. She gave powerhouse performances in the films “Chaitali†and “Arjun Panditâ€. Later she played character roles in films like "Hero", "Biwi Ho To Aisi" and "Kishen Kanhaiya". Later to that in 2000s, she has done selected films like "Hum Apke hai kaun" starring Salman Khan and "Main Hoon Na" starring Shah Rukh Khan.
