Bimbisara’s Jail is the site where King Bimbisara was put in prison by his son and heir, Ajatashatru.

BimbisaraBimbisara"s Jail is situated on the southern side of Maniyar Math, on the main road. Located near the eastern gate of the ancient Rajgir city, this is a ruin of a large square stone structure. In the middle of the valley is the ruin of a circular structure with turrets at each corner. From this point the Gridhakuta hill top which was Lord Buddha"s favourite meditation place is clearly visible. This jail also provides a panoramic view of the Japanese Peace Pagoda popularly known as the "Vishwa Shanti Stupa", on the hill.

History of Bimbisara"s Jail
Bimbisara"s Jail is the place where King Bimbisara was imprisoned by his son Ajatshatru, during his last days of life. In order to attain the throne from his father King Bimbisara, Ajatashatru has taken this drastic step. This place was chosen by the king himself for his incarceration, as he could witness from here the ascent of Lord Buddha to the mountain retreat at the Gridhakuta hill.
