Benoy Krishna Basu was a revolutionary from Bengal. He was a member of the Bengal Volunteers group.

Benoy Krishna Basu, Revolutionary Freedom FighterBenoy Krishna Basu was born on 11 September 1908, in Rohitbhog village of Munshiganj District. His father was an engineer. Post his success in matriculation examination he enrolled into the Mitford Medical School. He was influenced by a revolutionary of Dhaka Hemchandra Ghosh to join Benoy joined the `Mukti Sangha`. It was a secret society that was connected with the Jugantar Party. Due to his association with revolutionary activities he was unable to complete his studies.

Basu and fellow revolutionaries joined Bengal Volunteers that was a group organised by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in 1928. Thereafter he started a local unit of the organisation in Dhaka known as Bengal Volunteers in Dacca. Later, the Bengal prepared a plan of "Operation Freedom" against the police oppression in Bengal.

The revolutionary group planned to kill Lowman who was the inspector General of Police in August 1930. He was present in the Medical School Hospital to see a sick senior police official. On 29 August 1930 Benoy breached the security and fired at close range leading to instant death of Lowman.

The police chased him constantly but he managed to escape by disguise. He reached Kolkata and lived in Waliullah lane in Central Kolkata. However he always feared of being caught. The police chief, Sir Charles Tegart, arrived there to arrest him but he escaped. Their next aim was to kill Col NS Simpson, the Inspector General of Prisons. On 8 December 1930, Benoy along with Dinesh chandra Gupta and Badal Gupta entered the Writers` Building and shot dead Simpson. There was a fight between the police and the revolutionaries. Benoy shot himself in order to avoid being arrested.
