Begur Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a distance of 20 kilometres from Wayanad town at a place called Mananthavady in Wayanad district of the south Indian state Kerala. Located near the Western Ghats, the place is highly admired for its spectacular natural beauty and is regarded as one of the most enchanting places of Wayanad. The entire sanctuary is swathed in vibrant greeneries and dense forest. A number of rare medicinal plants also grow in Begur Wildlife Sanctuary for which it is frequently visited by pharmaceutical companies for research. Begur Wildlife Sanctuary forms the habitat for a rich diversity of flora of south India. The major portion of the forest is covered by moist deciduous kind of vegetation. Some of the commonly found species include Cardamom, Pepper, Coffee, Tea, Vanilla and many other condiments. Apart from these, Bamboo, Mazhukanjiram, Chadachi, Vengal, Venteak, Rosewood, Karimaruthi, Maruthi etc also grow in the sanctuary.

Fauna of Begur Wildlife Sanctuary
Begur Wildlife Sanctuary hosts a vast variety of fauna including Leopards, Boars, Tigers, Deer, Elephants and many more. It also serves as a home to a number of beautiful birds. The place is best visited during the period of December to May, as after the monsoons the water holes in the sanctuary gets filled, attracting the wildlife to come out of the deep forest for quenching their thirst. The exotic avifauna of the place also attracts many birdwatchers to spot a variety of native and migratory birds.

The nearest airport to reach the sanctuary is Kozhikode Airport, situated at a distance of about 80 kilometres. Thalassery in the Kannur district is the nearest railway station which is also located 80 kilometres away from the sanctuary. The place is well connected with a wide network of roads.
