BCCI Corporate Trophy was first started as a championship with 12 teams. It is held in the month of October just before the start of the Ranji Trophy season. The competition is 50 overs a side which involves corporate teams from India. All the tops Indian players participate in the tournament along with academy cricket players and also those who regularly play at the domestic levels.
History of BCCI Corporate Trophy
The main idea that actually went into the inception of the BCCI Corporate Trophy was to promote the limited version of the game. It was thought that BCCI Corporate Trophy would enhance longer existence of the 50 over game. The primary aim, was however to take care of the employment opportunity for the domestic cricketers. So the BCCI invited 12 corporate teams to take part in the championship and invest in a major way where top cricketers from India would be present.
It was decided that the winner of the tournament would win one crore rupees and the runners up will receive fifty lakh rupees. However the board did not want another IPL so foreign players were not involved.
The tournaments generally have players from various states. The inaugural version of the championship was won by the Air India Red. They defeated the Air India Blue by 93 in the finals of inaugural edition.
The 1st edition of the tournament took place in the month of September and covered live by NEO Cricket.
