Basaria is a census town situated in the Dhanbad district in the state of Jharkhand in India. The state of Jharkhand has twenty-two districts and the Dhanbad district is one of them. It came into being on 1956. Giridih and Bokaro surround the district on the west, on the north by Giridih and Dumka and on the east and south by the Purulia district of West Bengal. There are eight blocks in the district, mainly Baghmara, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Baliapur, Tundi, Govindpur and Topchanchi. According to the 1991 Census, the total population of the district is 19,49,526. There are 10,71,913 males and 8,77,613 females. The exact location of the Dhanbad district is between the latitudes 23°37`3" N and 24°4` N and between the 86°6`30" E and 86°50` E longitude.
As per the 2001 India census, the town of Basaria has a population of 3966. Males make up 53% of the population and females amount to 47%. Basaria has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the nationwide standard of 59.5%. 69% of the males and 31% of the females are literate. 15% of the population is children less than 6 years of age.
