Baru Chandidas belonged to a group of poets who composed songs on Vaishnavism. He is known for his restructuring of Srikrishna Kirtan.

Baru Chandidas added substantial originality to Srikrishna Kirtan and made it a masterpiece of medieval Bengali literature. He gives the yearning of Radha and in the process captures the social conditions of the day. He is considered to be prominent Early Middle Bengal poet. Srikrishna kirtan is remains one of the most important evidences of early portrayal of the popular story of "Lord Krishna`s love for Radha". There are 412 songs that are divided into thirteen sections that represent the core of the Radha-Krishna legendary cycle.

The discovery of Srikrishna kirtan throws light on the authorship of a large number of Vaishnava Pada that bears the name of Chandidas in their Bhanitas.
