Baragaon village is situated in the Nalanda District of the state of Bihar. The village is at a distance of 2 km from the Nalanda Railway station in the north- west direction. It is well known for its exclusive "Chhath Puja" celebrations. There is a large pool in the village where Chhath Puja is performed by the native and nearby villagers and from all over the state, mainly from North Bihar. There is a gigantic ancient shrine of Lord Surya known as "Surya Temple". Chhath Puja is celebrated two times in the year in the months of Chaitya (March- April) and Kartik (October- November). The people of the village of Baragaon and those of the nearby village perform special pujas dedicated to God Surya every Sunday.
Significance of Baragaon
The significance of the place is also because this is the place where most of the prominent religions of India are represented, whether it is Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, or Muslim all have got representation at this place. For the Buddhist, Baragaon has got the special position as all around its place there are several Buddhist sites important for its religious value. As mentioned above, the Sun Temple has got much value for Hindus, as its importance is also mentioned in Puranas.
