Bansberia is located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, between Bandel and Tribeni. Bansberia is under Chinsurah and Mogra police stations in Chinsurah division. Previously it was included as a village in ancient "Saptagram". It served as the main port and commercial complex of the area. The ancient place belongs to the age of Shah Jahan. It was captured by the Mughal dynasty and Raghab Dattaroy of Patuli was the Zamindar of the region. The name of the place has been derived from the myth that Raghab`s son built a fort here by clearing a bamboo grove.

Ananta Vasudeva temple and Hangeshwari temple are the major tourist attractions of Bansberia. The temple edifices are embellished with elaborate and exquisite terracotta carvings. Hangseshwari temple is a five storied structure exhibiting a distinct architectural style. The temple has three `Minars` of the shape of a lotus bud and the inner design resembles human anatomy. Goddess Kali is the presiding deity of the temple. Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy Mahasay had initiated the construction of this temple which was completed by Rani Sankari, his wife, in the year 1814.

Ananta Vasudeva temple is another famous temple of Bansberia that represents traditional `Ekaratna` style of architecture. The temple has curved cornices, triple arched entrance and an octagonal tower. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Krishna. Intricate terracotta carving on the walls of the temple showcases scenes of love, war, everyday life and Gods. Built in 1649, it is located in the premises of Hangeshwari temple. It was constructed by Raja Rameshwar Datta who was a strong follower of Vaishnavism. The architecture and artistry of the temple have a stark resemblance with the terracotta temples of Bishnupur. Besides the temple, the remains of Dattaroy Palace are also located here. Fragments of arches and broken walls of the palace are still found around Ananta Vasudeva temple.

A walk along the Hooghly to Ishwar Gupta Bridge is another pleasant experience in Bansberia. Bandel is also situated nearby, which houses a number of tourist destinations. Bansberia can be reached both by rail and road services.

The place, Basberia can be visited any time of the year except monsoons. Accommodation facilities for tourists are not available here; however tourists can stay in the lodges of Bandel situated nearby.
