Bannerghatta National Park is a popular tourist attraction in Karnataka. Located near Bangalore this is one of the safest places for the animals. The park actually covers an area of 101square kilometers. However only a portion of this vast landscape has been etched out for tourism. A wide variety of animals are to be found here. Bannerghatta Tiger and Lion Reserve have a laudable diversity of predators like tigers and lions.
The best way of exploring the park is through safaris. Various safaris are available for the tourists-tiger and lion safari and herbivore safari. One can also check out the mini zoo that comprise of iguanas, leopards, white peacock, fantail pigeon, porcupines, Indian pied hornbill and other species. There is also the reptile park where one will find crocodiles, cobras, pythons, vipers and other kinds of serpents.
Bannerghatta National Park also consists of India`s first butterfly park. This was inaugurated in 2006. A circular enclosure has been deigned to keep the 20 butterflies. An artificial setting of humid climate, artificial waterfall and plants for butterflies has been also arranged.
The most attractive feature of the park is the safari. Located amidst deciduous forest it is the perfect dwelling place for predators.
