Location of Bainan
Bainan is located in Howrah District in the Indian state of West Bengal. This place is prominent in tourism map of Bengal, because of the temples associated festivals nearby.

History of Bainan
Bainan is remarkable for its history. In the year 1854, the economic paradigm shift of Howrah, which is basically an area covering Shibpur, Saalkia, Ramrajatola. The British East India Company established the Howrah railway station during that time. The Howrah District was formed by division of Hooghly District. Both Howrah and Hooghly were under the zamindary of Burdwan Maharaja. Before that the whole area was under the Bhursoot Kingdom which ruled this area about 200 years by the Roy family. Pratap Narayan Roy was the most famous king of this dynasty. His widow wife successfully resisted the aggression of a Muslim invader from Odhisa with the help of a few local Bagdi communities. Emperor Akbar was in the helm of Mughal Dynasty that time. He was very pleased and conferred the "Roy Baghini" title to that brave lady.

Bainan has a panchayat. It falls under Amta constituency of Howrah District of West Bengal.

Bainan has two high schools, Bainan Bamandas High School and Bainan Girls High School. It has one market which opens daily.

Culture of Bainan
Kali puja in the month of Chaitra is the most famous. In the same month, Gajan festival is celebrated which is for Lord Shiva or Mahadeva. During the month of September to October all the natives celebrate Durga Puja, which is the greatest festival of West Bengal. Ratha Yatra of God Radhaballabh (radha krisha) of Ray-Bandopadhay family is celebrated in the month of Ashad (June-July) for approximately 500 years. Boisakh festival is another important festival held every year during the month of Baishak that is when the Bengali New Year started.
