Badhni Kalan is a town and a nagar panchayat situated in Moga district in the state of Punjab in India. The state of Punjab in North-West India has nineteen districts and Moga is one of them. Moga District is the 17th District to be included in the map of Punjab on the 24th of November, 1995. Numerous attempts were made in the past to give district status to Moga but none bore fruit. Finally in keeping with public demand district status was accorded to Moga on the 24th of November, 1995 by the then Chief Minister of Punjab S. Harcharan Singh Brar. Prior to this, Moga was a part of Faridkot District. The head quarter of the District, which bears the same name is situated on Ferozpur-Ludhiana road.
The population of Badhni Kalan is 6373, according to the 2001 India census. Male and female population respectively comprises 52% and 48% of the total population. The mean literacy rate of Badhni Kalan is 58%, a little below the national average of 59.5%. 53% of the males and 47% of females are literate. 11% of the populations are children below six years of age.
