Badal Gupta was born in the village Purba Shimulia in Munshiganj District of Bangladesh. He was inspired by Nikunja Sen who was a teacher of the Banaripara School of Bikrampur. He joined the Bengal Volunteers.
This group had targeted Col NS Simpson, the Inspector General of Prisons. On 8 December 1930, Badal along with Dinesh Chandra Gupta and Benoy entered the Writers` Building and killed Simpson. He in order to avoid being arrested by the police took Potassium cyanide and died on the spot. Badal was also influenced by the revolutionary activities of his two paternal uncles Late Dharani Nath Gupta and Nagendra Nath Gupta.
