Badagas is a tribe of the Nilgiri hills. The Badagas worship Lord Shiva and most of their temples contain a Maha Linga, which is a long rude stone in the shape of a lingam. The fane of this deity is nearly always built in a conical form, outside the village, with a Basava placed at the entrance.
