Baba Sehgal, Indian Pop SingerBaba Sehgal is an Indian rapper, playback singer and actor. He first catapulted to fame with the famous rap song Thanda Thanda Pani. Baba Sehgal, a Khatri Sikh, is regarded as the first successful Indi-Pop star of the Indian subcontinent and was almost raised to the status of an iconic rapper in the mid 1990s. He was also credited for being the man behind the first rap album of India Dil Dhadke. This music video created such rage that it went on to become the first Indian music video that won the MTV US award in the international arena.

Early Life of Baba Sehgal
Baba Sehgal was born as Harjit Singh Sehgal. He was a student of mechanical engineering at College of Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. However he did not want to pursue his career in the hardcore technical field and thus dropped out of college. He always had an inclination towards music from a very tender age and went ahead to rock the whole nation with the tuneful lyrics of Thanda Thanda Pani.

Career of Baba Sehgal
Among the solo albums of Baba Sehgal the first one which brought him a round of applause was Dilruba released in the year 1990 and the second one was Alibaba which saw the light of day in the following year. He gained the maximum popularity with his third album Thanda Thanda Pani. In fact the success, which he gained through this album, helped him to sell his first two albums at a quicker pace. This very talented singer has released a number of albums out of which many were huge hits. His fans have always been surprised by his inborn talents, which he displayed by being a stage performer and a model as well. He himself composes, writes and sings songs for his albums.

This Indi-pop star almost disappeared from the Indian music industry post 2000. He almost made his base at United States and started taking up lots of stage shows there. Later, Baba Sehgal returned to India and started hosting television shows including the TV show Superhit Muqabla, aired on DD2 at primetime. His music album Welcome to Mumbai, released after coming back from New York where he stayed for around 4 to 5 years. His fans have also seen him hosting the hugely popular show Santa Banta Newz Unlimited. He also appeared in a reality show for the popular Zee TV channel. Sehgal also composed the music for the film Bhoot Uncle and Dance Party. He also participated in Dhoom Macha De, which aired on NDTV Imagine in 2009. In the same year, he also featured in the comedy series Jugni Chali Jalandhar on SAB TV. In 2011, Baba Sehgal acted in the Star One show, Rang Badalti Odhani. Sehgal has also been featured on the Imagine Showbiz series Baba`s Cross Connection.

He made his acting debut by starring in the lead role in the Bollywood film Miss 420. He also worked as a playback singer for the movie. He essayed a double role in the 1999 film Double Gadbad along with composing and singing all the songs for the film. Other films in which Sehgal acted include Nalaik, My Friend Ganesha 3 and Rudhramadevi. Baba Sehgal has also sang for many Telugu films, such as Jalsa, Rikshavodu, Aarya 2, Don Seenu and Adhurs. Sehgal sung many Tamil and Bengali songs (in the movie "Khiladi") as well.
