Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, BFUHS, Medical Institutes of PunjabBaba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) is famous for being one of the premium medical institutions in India. The University is named after the great Sufi saint, Baba Farid and it was established in the year 1998. The university was established by an Act of the State Legislature and it is the fifth of its kind in the country. Baba Farid University of Health Sciences is thus considered as one of the most eminent medical institutes in Punjab.

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has been working hard for nurturing the young talents of India, who intend to pursue their careers in the medical field. The university also works towards providing community oriented need based education and training programmes for the Health professionals. The Punjab government mainly established the university, because there was an imminent need of health professionals in the state, in the late 1990s. The main objective behind the foundation of the university was to fill-up the inadequacy of health professionals in the state.

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) is working to become a "Pace-setter" in developing appropriate modes and models of Health Care. There are a large number of 73 colleges affiliated to the university and all of them working with the same intention of providing quality medical education to the students. There are 7 Medical colleges, 11 Dental colleges, 11 Ayurvedic colleges, 26 Nursing institutions, 9 Physiotherapy institutions, 4 Homoeopathic colleges, 1 Sports Medicine college and 4 Medical Laboratories. Technology institutions, currently working in association with the BFUHS.

Apart from the affiliated colleges and institutions, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences also has six faculties in it and the faculties include the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Dental Sciences, the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, the Faculty of Ayurveda, the Faculty of Physiotherapy and the Faculty of Homoeopathy. All the degrees and diplomas awarded by this university have been recognised by His Excellency the Governor of Punjab w.e.f. 1st July, 1999. The government of India has also recognised the degrees like MBBS, MD/MS/PG Diploma/ BDS/ B. Sc. (Nursing)/ M. Sc. (Nursing), awarded by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. Apart from these degrees, the DCI/ CCH/ CCIM have also been recommended to the government of India for the recognition of MDS/ BHMS/ BAMS degrees awarded by this University. The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, the SAARC Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London and the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of its Act, 1956. Apart from this, the university is included in the World Health Directory of Medical Schools, as well.
