Medical College (BJMC) is situated in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat and is considered to be one of the most famous and oldest medical institutions in India. The college started its journey long back in 1871 as the Ahmedabad Medical School with 14 students for Hospital Assistant training. The college was rechristened to B. J. Medical College (BJMC) in 1879 and it was named after the late Hon. Byramjee Jeejabhoy. He made a contribution of Rs. 20, 000 for erecting the magnificent building of the college. The college got affiliation from the Gujarat University in 1951 for its undergraduate courses and its postgraduate courses got the affiliation of the Gujarat University in 1956.

The B. J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad is one of the largest sources of medically qualified manpower in the country and it admits 250 students, every year. The college is acting as the centre for the admission of MBBS Students in the entire Gujarat State. The college admits its students through an entrance examination conducted in Gujarat and the seats are available only for domicile of Gujarat. Courses available: MBBS, MD, MS & M.Ch courses available. The minimum required educational qualification for the students is Higher Secondary certificate examination (Science Stream) under 10+2 educational pattern of the Gujarat Higher Secondary School Education Board or Central Board of Secondary Education from any school in Gujarat. Apart from that passing the Central Board of Secondary Education from any school in Gujarat with at least 55% marks in subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and English, is also taken into consideration. The college considers only the applications from the students of Gujarat for admission.

The B. J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad offers several courses in about 15 different fields of medical science at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college also offers super speciality courses in three branches, four M.Ch courses and postgraduate diploma in 10 branches. The main courses that the college offers include MBBS at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, the college offers MD in Anaesthesia, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Dermatology, Psychological Med, Pathology & Bacteriology, Pharmacology, Preventive and Social Medicine, Physiology, Paediatrics, Tuberculosis. The college also offers MS in Anatomy, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Otorhinolaryngology. The BJMC, Ahmedabad has got recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO) for its innovation in integrated teaching and training programs on child health services and universal immunization.

Apart from offering the above mentioned courses to the students, the B. J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad also provides some other facilities to the people of Gujarat. There are some other institutions situated within the premises of the college kike, Govt. Dental College and Hospital, College of Nursing, Regional Family Planning Centre, College of Physiotherapy and also the voluntary Blood Bank. The college provides separate hostel facilities for its male and female students, as well. The hospitals that are associating the BJMC, Ahmedabad for several years include the Civil Hospital, M. J. Institute of Ophthalmology, Institute of Kidney Diseases, Shri U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology, M. P. Shah Cancer Hospital, Institute of Paraplegia, T.B. Hospital and the E.S.I.S General Hospital.
