Avinashilingam University for Women is located at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. It is a woman only Deemed University located at Coimbatore.

Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore, Tamil NaduAvinashilingam University was set up as Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women in 1957 under the aegis of Avinashilingam Education Trust. Dr.T.S. Avinashilingam, the renowned educationist was founder of University. Initially it was the part of the University of Madras. Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas, the great educationist and chancellor of the University was the main person behind the growth and improvement of the University.

In 1978 Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College was given the autonomy by the University of Madras. The autonomy paved the way of academic innovation and development. In1988 Government of India declared the college as deemed university. The main objectives of the University are to inculcate ethical values among the students and generate awareness among women about their rights and status through higher education. The educational principles of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi are followed by the University.

The University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, MCA and doctorate programmes in various disciplines. The faculties include Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business Administration, Engineering and Community Education and Entrepreneurship Development. It is considered as the largest institution in India for providing Home Science. The University started two Majors and two Ancillaries for the Under Graduate Degree Courses in 1989.The campus of the university contains Computer Centre, Visual Communication Centre, Hostels, Auditorium, Sports Complex, etc. The University received B++ status from National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
