He is also known for his valuable interviews, articles and comments on society and politics. Atul Kulkarni started his acting career with theatres and gradually made a firm footing in the film industry, establishing himself as an immensely powerful actor. He has worked in the movies of sector languages.

Early Life of Atul Kulkarni
Atul Kulkarni was born on September 10, 1965 in Karnataka, in a small and beautiful town named Belgaum. His father was a businessman and mother, a housewife. His family was settled in Solapur district and there he was brought up and educated. Atul Kulkarni appeared on stage for the first time in his school, Haribhai Devkaran High School, Solapur. He completed his Junior College from Belgaum and was able to secure a seat at Engineering College of Belgaum itself. However, he could not find anything interesting in engineering and he quit the college and joined D. A. V. College, Solapur that was affiliated to Shivaji University. Atul Kulkarni is a graduate in English literature.

Atul Kulkarni joined Natya Aradhana, an amateur theatre group from Solapur simultaneously when he was completing his academic degrees. While working with this group, his grooming as an artist was done thoroughly. After working back stage for two years, finally he got a chance to act. He decided to pursue his career in professional acting. Atul Kulkarni got admitted in the National School of Drama, New Delhi. His acting skills were given the polished touches at this institution that has produced legendary actors of international fame. Atul Kulkarni acquired a degree of Post Graduate Diploma in Dramatic Arts from National School of Drama. Some of the popular plays in which he has enacted are Samudra, Gandhi Virudhha Gandhi, Manoos Navacha Bet, Aapan Sarech Ghodegaonkar, Chapha, Natak and Zale Mokale Aabh.

Career of Atul Kulkarni in Films
Atul Kulkarni debuted with the movie Bhoomi Geethe in Kannada. His portrayal of Shriram Abhyankar in the film Hey Ram gained him immense success and established a new platform for him in the Indian film industry. In 2001, he played the role of a gangster in Madhur Bhandarkar`s Chandni Bar (2001) with Tabu. He also worked in Satta as a politician. Atul won critical acclaim for his performances in films like Page 3 and also in the Aamir Khan starrer Rang De Basanti. Atul Kulkarni has acted in various regional movies like Tamil movie Run, Marathi movie Chakwa, Malayalam flick Talappavu, Kannada flick Yaksha and many others.

Achievements of Atul Kulkarni
Atul Kulkarni had participated in state level drama competition from 1989 to 1992 and received 5 Best Actor Awards and 1 Best Director Award. His play Gandhi Viruddha Gandhi earned him 8 Best Actor Awards in 1996 which is a record in Marathi Professional Theatre. He also won two National Awards as Best Actor in a Supporting Role, one for Hey Ram in the year 2000 and the other for Chandni Bar in 2002.
