Atharva Veda Samhita offer an insight into the culture of Vedic society. Shaunakiya has 5977 mantras which are arranged in 20 books called `kandas`. Paippalada has around 7950 mantras which are also arranged in many kandas. It contains hymns that are related to wedding, agriculture, battle, medicine, domestic ceremonies and coronation and so on. Several hymns are devoted to Hindu spirituality.
Most of the mantras in Atharvaveda Samhita are metrical and 80 hymns are in prose.
The hymns deal with spiritual and psychological topics, various devas like Agni, Indra, Sun and their psychological powers, brahmacharya, wedding, hospitality, ascetic phase, Health and healing and physiology, professions, caste, governance, nation and community welfare, openness of society, Mathematics, time, rituals, animals and hymns to Earth.
