AryabhataAstrology in Siddhanta period trace back to the authors writing treatises on astronomy belonged to the 5th century. This period is traced to be the commencement period of the classical age of Indian astronomy. Besides the theories of Aryabhata in the `Aryabhatiya` and the lost `Arya-siddhanta`, there is the `Pancha-Siddhantika` of Varahamihira. During this period, we find works of the following five Siddhantas, viz., the Pitamaha, Vasistha, Romaka, Pulisa and Surya.

Thereafter, we reach the period, the works written by well known historical authors. Aryabhata the most prominent astronomer is considered as first human writer on Jyotishastra. He had improved the system developed in Siddhantas in to a reduced version. A study of the Aryabhatiya reveals that the base for calculation of planetary positions is the Kali Yuga. The sixty year yuga was prevalent. It could be inferred that Aryabhata had to his credit two other books, in which he recognised the rule of Yugarambha from sunrise and midnight correspondingly. Aryabhata`s Aryasiddhanta has a calendar prepared in accordance with solar system which is followed by people of Kerala even today.

Varahamira an astronomer and an astrologer was very popular in the 6th century A. D. Hi works had dogmas related to astronomy, natural astrology, omens, horoscopy, and many other works. From these facts it is clear that Varahamihira had mastered all the sections of Jyotishastra.

The well-known astronomer Brahmagupta, Vishnu Chandra, Bhaskaracharya and many others do have some works on Astronomy. Bhattotpala a famous commentator had written a book on horary astrology.
