That was just the beginning later the Assamese directors teamed with the Assamese actors offered a whole new facet to Assamese cinema.

The Assamese actors mostly hail from the stage. This has been true for great Assamese actors like Phani Sarma. He was instrumental in establishing the Assamese film industry. It was he who made the first Assamese movie in 1935, Joymati. Apart from being a popular actor he was also a well known playwright. Such talented Assamese actors have for years adorned the silver screen and entertained the audiences.
