Ashish Nehra, Indian Cricket PlayerAshish Diwansingh Nehra or Ashish Nehra is an Indian cricket player who has played a number of international matches representing India since 1999. He is a left-arm fast bowler. Born on 29th April 1979, he began playing first-class cricket for his hometown, Delhi in 1997-98 seasons. The year 1999 marked his debut in Test cricket against Sri Lanka at Colombo. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2001 against Zimbabwe at Harare.

In his first Test match, Ashish Diwansingh Nehra began well and dismissed Marvan Atapattu early but following this he failed to grab any more wickets. He also played as a part of the Indian team at the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. He got his career-best ODI figures of 6 for 23 against England. In the other matches of the World Cup he also rendered noteworthy performances. However Ashish Nehra failed to create a permanent place in the Indian cricket team owing to his inconsistency and successive back and ankle injuries.

Ashish Diwansingh Nehra or Ashish Nehra has always performed better in ODI cricket than in Test cricket. In ODI he has bagged 144 wickets at an average of 30.54. However his average is higher than all his main competitors like Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan and others. Ashish Nehra, Indian Cricket PlayerHe performed credibly in the second season of the IPL and was recalled to the ODI squad for the tour of West Indies in June 2009 after 4 years. He played the first game against South Africa in the 2011 Cricket World Cup in which he gave away 65 runs during 8.4 wicketless overs. This narrowed his chances of getting another opportunity at the World Cup. However he became a part of the semi-final against Pakistan. In the match Nehra proved his worth by taking 2 wickets in 10 overs for a mere 33 runs helping India to beat Pakistan by 29 runs. But his right hand finger fracture restrained him from playing the finals.

After recovering from his ankle injury, Ashish Nehra joined the Indian Premier League, signing up for the Mumbai Indians franchise. On 7 May 2008, he won the Man of the Match for the game against Rajasthan Royals in which he bagged three wickets. In the year 2009 he played for the Delhi Daredevils. In the 2011 IPL he was a representative of Pune Warriors. He could not play IPL-4 due to right hand finger injury and returned in IPL-5. In IPL-6 he played for Delhi Daredevils while in the following season in 2014 he was a part of Chennai Super Kings.

In the domestic cricket, Ashish Nehra or Ashish Diwansingh Nehra has performed for Delhi. He bagged 6/16 from 10 overs in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy and bowled out Vidarbha for a meagre 88 in the 1st innings at the Roshanara Club Ground at Delhi.
